Book storage

Who this is for

Storage that meets a professional standard

Concert and semi-concert grands rarely go into storage for ordinary reasons. A hall is being refurbished and the instrument needs a home for the season. A performer is between residencies. A conservatoire is rotating its stock or a venue has acquired a piano before the room is ready for it. In each case the people involved know exactly what the instrument is worth, and they expect the storage to match.

That is the standard we work to. A nine-foot concert grand is a serious piece of engineering and a serious financial asset, and it is treated as both. The crews who collect and store it do nothing but pianos, the conditions are held to a museum-grade standard, and everything is documented so a venue, a college or an artist's management can account for the instrument at any point.

Museum-grade conditions

The environment a concert instrument expects

A concert grand spends its working life in regulated halls, so the storage it goes into should not undo that. The whole point of holding temperature and humidity steady is that the soundboard, the action and the tuning stay where a fine instrument needs them, ready to perform after settling rather than needing weeks of remedial work.

  • Temperature and humidity held steady to a museum-grade standard all year
  • Soundboard crown, bridges and ribs protected against cracking and movement
  • Action and hammers kept clean and dry so regulation holds
  • Fitted covers over the case and lid, the lid and music desk padded and stored apart
  • Around-the-clock monitored security with full insurance throughout

Handling the largest cases

Dismantled, carried and stored by people who know them

A concert grand is dismantled with the same care as any grand, only there is more of it and the margins are smaller. The lid, music desk, legs and lyre come off in order, every part is bagged and protected, and the long case is eased onto a board and carried by hand. There is no improvising with an instrument of this size.

Booking and return

Arranged for venues, artists and institutions

A concert grand is large enough that we like to know the details when you book, so tell us the make and length and any access points such as a stage door or a goods lift. Pricing is clear online, with stairs and difficult access shown before you commit, and there is no fixed term. When the hall reopens or the residency begins, the same specialists rebuild the instrument in place. Storage here is part of the Pianospeed Group, so an institution deals with one accountable provider rather than a chain of contractors.

Questions

Can you store a full nine-foot concert grand?

Yes. Full concert and semi-concert grands are handled by crews who work with instruments of that size regularly. The piano is dismantled, the long case is carried on a board, and it is held in museum-grade climate-controlled conditions for as long as the venue or performer needs.

Our hall is being refurbished. Can we store the piano for a single season?

That is one of the most common reasons venues come to us. There is no fixed term and storage is billed in four-weekly cycles, so you cover the months the hall is closed and arrange re-delivery for the week it reopens. The instrument comes back to the same standard it left.

What does museum-grade storage actually mean for the instrument?

It means temperature and humidity are held steady all year, to the kind of standard a concert instrument is used to in a regulated hall. That stability is what protects the soundboard, keeps the action regulated and stops the tuning drifting, so the piano is ready to perform after it settles rather than needing repair.

How do we account for a high-value concert instrument while it is stored?

Each piano is logged and tracked against your booking, so its location and time in store are documented for a venue, college or management to check. It is fully insured throughout, and if you hold a specialist valuation, tell us when you book so it is on record.

Can you work around stage access, goods lifts and tight load points?

Yes, and it helps to tell us about them when you book. Stage doors, goods lifts and awkward access are exactly what specialist piano crews plan for, and any access that affects the work is priced clearly during booking rather than added on the day.

Where do you collect and store concert grands?

Across GB mainland and Belfast. Each postcode area has a set collection day, and for an instrument this size we confirm timing and access in advance so a properly equipped crew arrives ready for the job.
